I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in Sep 2009
Interview
Had to fill out an application online (can only be done through PCs, although they had computers in the store to also fill out applications). Like most large companies, they had an "equal opportunity employer" question but they only asked you if you were Hispanic or not and the questions didn't say it was optional, which was a little strange since most places list off a number of races and ethnicities for you to choose from and the question is usually optional.
Came in for an interview and they basically just read off questions from a packet and write down your answers. Interview took about 1 hour. They told me they would call me next week and then go through an "easy" background check before they made an offer. A few days later I got an email from the hiring manager saying they weren't hiring me. I was a little taken aback since I thought I did really well on the interview and I was more than qualified for the job. Later, I talked to some other Hispanic people who have worked for Abercrobmie & Fitch and Hollister and they said that they aren't very friendly to hiring Latinos and Hispanics, even if you would come off as their average customer and/or work for them. That was a little disheartening to think I lost a job that I was qualified for and excited about because of my race. So, my advice to Hispanics who are applying for this job is to NOT tell them you are Hispanic! Even if you have a Hispanic name!!
Dress code for the interview was casual. I wore Abercrombie clothes: low cut jeans and a plaid shirt.

Interview
The interview process took 3 rounds, first speaking with the Store Manager, then the General Manager and finally the District Manager.
I had a pleasant experience during the interview process in the first 2 rounds. The interactions with GM in particular were great, with him assisting me to follow up on the application process throughout and he was very friendly. Initial interview was a group-type interview, with me and another candidate taking turns to answer the same questions which were read out from an interview form.
The final interview was not as pleasant. I was kept waiting for a substantial period of time (around 30 mins or more). Throughout the interview, there was also a lack of eye contact and attention given to the candidate. Interviewer offered an explanation that it was due to typing down the information, but it still felt inappropriate and disrespectful to the applicant.
Despite the role being a Manager-in-Training position that I understood to allow cross-industry transition with relevant training provided, the last interviewer focused mainly on my lack of experience in the retail industry as a potentially disqualifying factor.
Toward the end of the interview, I was asked if I would consider working as a Part-time Sales Associate as an alternative, which I understood to be an hourly-rated part-time role. I felt this question was inappropriate as it was irrelevant to the type of role I had applied for.

Question 1
Would you be willing to consider taking on a role as a Part-time Sales Associate?
The interview was pretty relaxing and it was group interview that everyone talked about their feelings about one question. Then they will check about your working situation and give you answers about some time.
