I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch (New Albany, OH) in Jan 2024
Interview
The first interview is a screening with the recruiter. Basic questions about your work experience, but they also ask you to talk about your design process, your inspirations, and why you want to work for Abercrombie. The second interview with the Art Director was much more casual, we chatted about my work and he let me ask most of the questions. After the second interview, I was moved to the unpaid design project, which was 5 t-shirt illustrations and 3 fleece designs. Which, in my opinion, is quite a lot of work to ask potential candidates– but I completed it because judging from how well the interviews went, I was confident I'd be offered the job. After submitting the project, I waited 5 weeks to hear a response, which was a canned corporate rejection email. It was a huge waste of time and energy.
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in Nov 2019
Interview
The interview process started off with an on-campus portfolio review, which lead to another on-campus interview. After a week or so, I had heard back that I moved onto the next step, which required another phone interview with one of their current apparel graphic designers. Another week or so had passed, and the recruiter called back to tell me that I had moved on, and they would be flying me out to their headquarters in December for more interviews and to see their campus. They also assigned a project for me to do in the mean time, which I would have to present to the interviewers at the site. Overall, the process was fun, but extremely long! It was one of my first times having an experience like this, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm glad I did.
