It was well structured, recruiter was responsive and helpful until the Hiring Manager and Team Lead decided to not move forward with the c-suite interview for me.
Process is as so:
1. Application
2. HR screener discussion (30 minutes)
3. Team interview (may be 2-3 individual interviews)
4. Receive case study to complete and submit within 7 days
5. Hiring Manager and Team Lead interview (includes introductions, general questions, content questions, case study discussion, questions from the candidate)
6. Interview with a member of the board (c-suite)
7. Potential offer
If you don’t make it past step 5., it’s over and done. Also, if you ask for feedback on what didn’t work and why you weren’t able to interview with a member of the board, it’ll be crickets.
During my interview, I asked for feedback for the case study- there wasn’t much other than it met expectations. This was very bizarre, as the recruiter had emphasized the 60 minute call with the Hiring Manager and Team Lead was to focus on the case study. I did not have to present it at all, so be aware that is not what the conversation is for.
I truly felt that while the company may appear that they want to fill the role, they really just wanted to gather case study presentations as free work and not hire anyone, or hire someone already in mind.
From my experience, some interviewers were more honest in conversations and others had good poker faces- you didn’t know if they wanted a right or wrong answer, versus understanding your thought process; they seemed like they were looking for the perfect fit yet their company ethos is all about removing your ego and showing your willingness to learn.
Some folks I spoke to weren’t that honest about their trajectory in the company, and it was a little bit of a red flag to me, learning most people I interviewed with had not been there for much past 3 years, a sense of entitlement was revealed.
A breakdown of where I found roles really stood compared to the traditional corporate structure:
Officer: Associate/Analyst (individual contributor)
Senior Officer: Senior Associate/Analyst or Associate Manager: (lower level oversight role)
Team Lead: Manager or Senior Manager (higher oversight role)
Head of Department: Director/VP (oversight, strategy, people management responsibilities)
I spent 39 days from application to the last interview and it felt like false hope overall. If you are really interested in Adyen, I recommend to use your time wisely, study the formula obsessively and prove your worth by integrating this as part of your responses. If they ever ask you whether you have heard of Adyen before-yes you have. Do your research to show that you’d live and breathe this company as if you already work there.
