I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Aerotek (Creve Coeur, MO) in Jan 2012
Interview
I'll start out by saying that most people hired into Aerotek are referrals from their internal employees. I, however, just applied online after finding the posting on Indeed or a similar website. I was contact by an internal recruiter about a day or two after applying requesting a phone interview. They will actually call instead of emailing to request this and set up the time time to speak over the phone. The initial phone screen is crucial, they are looking for someone who can speak clearly, is personable, took the time to go to a quiet place and indicates that they want to sell and is competitive. Not speaking clearly or being in a noisy place are deal breakers. You'll spend 90% of your time on the phone in any position you hold at Aerotek.
The phone screen will cover your resume, why you left each position, and what you're looking for in your next position. They are looking for people with good job tenure, competitive nature and that eventually want to go into sales. Also, personable and all that jazz.
If you pass the phone interview they will set up a face to face interview before getting off the phone or will indicate that they will be coordinating this with you and ask for your availability. This interview will most likely consist of two people, the Sales Manager and DBO (Director of Business Operations) or one of them and an Account Manager, most likely the one you will be working for. They will ask standard behavioral based questions and drive into why you want to work there and what you want to do in the future- again they are looking for people who want to get into sales. This will last about an hour or so. They will not indicate if you're getting another interview when you leave but the same internal recruiter that you spoke to the first time will communicate with you whether you passed this round. I would use this time to ask questions about the office and business environment. Like how does this office perform compared to others? How did the recession affect Aerotek/the St. Louis market?
The final face to face can very for each office but in St. Louis it's meant to be more of a job shadow where the people that you meet with give you an idea of what it's like to work there instead of grilling you. You'll meet with some senior recruiters and account managers who will show you around the office and give you insight into what each day looks like. You'll also sit in on a "red zone" which is a meeting they have twice a day to discuss strategy and what everyone's doing for the day. I would pay attention to the dynamics of the room and how people interact with each other. It will tell you a lot about how the office culture is. Also, be aware that during this time everyone in the office will be watching you and looking at how you're dressed and many will share their opinions, even if they aren't asked. After you leave the group that you specifically met with will be asked to give feedback and basically a thumbs up or thumbs down. Ultimately, the hiring decision is up to the Sales Manager and DBO.
If you get the job the DBO will contact you directly and make the offer.
The interview process was quick. Lasting around 15 minutes. There are several interviews that you will go through. They will do an initial interview with the director. Then you will get scheduled for a follow up. This is where you meet the other recruiters and account managers. They will walk you around the office and have you shadow some of the recruiters.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What motivates you?
What’s your “why”?
Are you a go-getter?
Average difficulty covering standard interview questions. Phone screen followed by an in-person interview. Phone screen was received quickly after resume submission; in-person was with their head recruiter and then followed by one with their manager.
Phone screening call with the recruiter giving me information about the job, then another virtual call interview more in depth to ask me more questions. The final interview is in person in their office.
