I applied to this job on a whim. Affirm followed up in a week or so and I had a phone screener interview with the hiring manager. He asked me basic questions about my background, goals, and such.
I asked him how he interpreted the company's mission "to improve lives with financial products," which I thought was curious given the company is basically a predatory lending company. The interviewer seemed to be uncomfortable with the question and stumbled through his answer with corporate buzz words and vague statements.
Affirm seeks to deceive consumers by making purchases seem smaller and more manageable than they appear. They're like a credit card company but with less transparency. The interviewer's evasive answer to my question about improving lives reinforces this point. Affirm rejected me shortly after the interview even though I was well qualified for the position, so it seems like my simple question touched a nerve.
