      Technical Product Manager Interview

      Aug 26, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Allstate (Chicago, IL) in Jul 2018

      Interview

I had a phone screening, phone interview, a first interview where I spoke with 6 people, a second interview where I spoke with 3 people. In total, I spoke with 11 different people. The overall process was very unstructured and poorly defined. The HR staff was slow and unresponsive. The people I spoke with couldn't describe in detail what I would be working on. The "innovation group" that I spoke with consisted mostly of ex McKinsey/Bain/BCG consultants, who didn't know very much about creating products or software development. It sounded like the group mostly ideated on products on a theoretical level, but never actually build a product. That's consulting for ya...all talk and no skills.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself. How do you approach product management? Tell me about a difficult situation.

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Allstate (New York, NY)

      Interview

Insane process, only worth it if they give exceptional offer. First the HR found me through LinkedIn. Than scheduled a screening call but HR didn't showed up. Again dropped an email and scheduled another time. This time she called 10 mins late. After initial telephonic screening next round of marathon interview with 6 people (45 mins each) on the same day! (30 min break after 3 interviews.  Interviewers were some ex BCG/ Bain Consultants and technical architect. Every Bain Consultants same question. Answering same question multiple to different people. A panel interview would have been more appropriate. Technical architect interview was too technical but still saying you don't need to be technical.
