I got an email from Amazon Web Services saying one of their current employees had referred me. I couldn't guess who had given my reference but nonetheless since it was AMAZON, I decided to go ahead. I didn't know for which profile the interview was and when I replied to the email asking about the job description I got no response and before you ask, there was no contact number mentioned in the email. I came to know the position that the interview was for on the day I reached for the venue. There were more than 50 people who had come for the interview and we had t register ourselves at the reception to get a visitor's badge. So firstly they took a written test with some questions related to English, some basic technical and maths questions. After I cleared that I had a face-to-face round with one of the guys in the Operations team who explained that it was purely a non-technical role and whether I was still interested when he saw my resume filled with technical experience. I responded with the usual that who wouldn’t want to join Amazon etc. etc. and basically cleared that round too. After that they asked me to wait and go inside one of the rooms when that HR manager is free but then someone else went in instead of me and I had to wait again. Later they said my interviewer is yet to come and I can go have lunch and come back in around half an hour. I came back and was made to wait again since another guy who started to wait after me was called in and his interview lasted around 20-30 minutes. So when finally my turn came that lady asked me the same thing that I am totally into a technical profile right now and do I really want to proceed, I said yes and she asked some situational questions like the previous guy and took notes while I spoke. I even asked her if there was any provision to switch to a technical profile after sometime in this role to which she agreed. When we were done, she went over to her HR manager and spoke about me and came back with some weird news, that I will be considered for a Cloud support position later and she will send me a test email with the JD and stuff and I should take 2-3 weeks’ time, prepare and then come back. I mean seriously! What a waste of time. Being in their office from 9am-1:30pm, all for nothing. I felt so dejected and it felt worst to be rejected for being overqualified.
