Atlassian Principal Software Engineer interview questions

Although I have interviewed with many challenging companies in my 18 years of experience this one was soul crushing. I have been down levelled twice in the 7 rounds and the feedback didn’t seem fair. It almost felt like interviewers were trying to poke holes in my responses and focusing on negatives. I think most interviews except 1 went well and I was taken aback by the negative feedback. Also despite having passed all rounds, the hiring committee decided not to go ahead because of the feedback. Your mileage may vary but in general the salary promised by recruiters before first round is probably not what you will get. They would down level. After 7 hours of total interview time and weeks of preparation I was rejected which made me feel depressed and shook my confidence. It maybe due to current job market conditions but fair warning don’t interview just by looking at the salary package.

One of their core values is "no bs", but they are mostly bs. I went through four different interviews. Recruiter, coding, system design, and coding again. After the first coding interview they ghosted me for almost two months I followed up and I had somehow gotten lost in their system. I then went through two more technical interviews and was ghosted again. Only this time the response back was that they weren't moving forward and would not be providing feedback as to why. The last coding interview was "hard" in so much as the assignment was to build a snake game based on spending 5 minutes observing how an online version of the game works. For all the talk of the exercise intending to be collaborative, the interviewer basically sat silently the entire time. I'm not sure of any situation where you'd be expected to deduce copying existing software in an hour after spending a few minutes deducing how it works. Like I said, this place is probably all bs.
