I have been a fan of this company and its products. The interview experience left a very bad impression.
One day the recruiter called me while I am at a meeting at work. I saw an unknown number and ignored the call. I then get got a text on my phone "Hi this is XYZ from Atlassian, have 10 minutes to talk?"
I called him back, and he sounded so ecstatic to answer my call. He said "thanks for applying".. and I quickly corrected him "I did not apply". He then said I had applied 2 years ago and he saw my resume in their database and that the hiring manager was super-excited about my profile and wants to interview me for team X.
In the next few days, I cleared the phone screen and the onsite interview got scheduled.
I reached the Mountain View office 30 minutes before the scheduled first round.
As I am sitting in the lobby, that recruiter called again. He said.. "The position you were supposed to interview for today, has been internally filled, but there is another team that wants to interview you today, so with minimum change to the schedule, we will go ahead with the interview.. give me a call when you are done with the interview".
I get done after a few hours and call the recruiter back. He mentioned of the couple feedback entered in the system already, one is positive, one is not so positive, lets wait for other feedback and that he will let me know by next morning. It all seemed reasonable.
for the next week or more there is no news. Then enquired by email and got a response.. "we are still evaluating other candidates, however we will not move forward this your your candidature".
Three things that left a bad taste:
1) Feeling its alright to text the candidate when you are super-excited about the candidature
2) Letting the candidate know about the position closure on the day of the interview
3) Then continue "candidate shopping" and leaving candidate in dark until he enquires.
Well, I still would have appreciated a phone call from the recruiter (assuming he was a phone/text) person from previous interaction and get detailed feedback about what round did not go so well.
