My first interaction with BDO USA occurred at an on Campus event held by my University. At this event I was fortunate to meet and and get to know many representative from companies throughout the account industry. I spoke with the BDO representatives at first just long enough to say hello. At the end of the even one of the spokespeople called my name out as I was leaving. Keep in mind there were over 80 people at the even and my first name was remembered after just an initial greeting an hour or so prior. This first meeting led to my submission of a resume and application for employment on their website. A few weeks later I received a call and met with another rep for an on campus interview. The following week I was offered a second round of interviews at their office.
Arriving at their office I was very kindly welcomed into their new offices and then invited to lunch with two tax associates. After lunch we returned to the offices to commence the four separate interviews. What I really liked about BDO is their lack of your typical "behavioral questions" and more of a concentration on what type of person you are. The interviews were relaxed and the main idea was for them to find out who I was as a person and possible co-worker and for me to find out what type of person they really are. They really stress find the "right fit", both within the company of BDO, but also the city/area the office is in. One of my first questions at the first interview was "How do you like Grand Rapids, can you see yourself living there?"
Of what I have seen so far the company seems very appealing to me and I hope to discover more after my internship is complete.
