I applied online. I interviewed at BTS in Aug 2021
Interview
I found BTS to be wildly unprofessional. After going through three rounds and completing a two-hour writing assignment that I was told I would receive feedback on, they completely ghosted. I felt very disrespected as a candidate.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at BTS in Jul 2021
Interview
Standard interview process which involved speaking with different members of the team and answering questions. There were a few interviews and everyone I spoke to was extremely engaged and helpful.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at BTS (Tempe, AZ) in Mar 2021
Interview
I applied the day the job was posted and got an email response within 2 days. The recruiter informed me that there were 4 rounds to the interview process, which I only made it to the 3rd round.
1st: Phone screening with recruiter. Overall very easy-going and conversational. Just basic questions to get a feel for personality, experience, interest. Very transparent, which I appreciated. The recruiter was super nice and helpful along most of the process.
2nd: Zoom call with the person who had previously worked in the role I was interviewing for. She gave some great insight to the position and asked some questions that related back to qualifications for the position. She was super conversational and easy to talk to as well.
3rd: Zoom call with the marketing manager. This interview wasn’t nearly as conversational. I realized at this point that the position was completely unstructured, which is somewhat easy to tell by the vague job description. She mentioned the job was “chaotic” at times and it was a bit hard to completely understand what was expected from the role. At the end of the call, she told me there would be a writing exercise I would need to finish within a couple of days to assess my editing and writing skills. She said that once that was done, we would set up another meeting to go over the assignment together. At this point, the process seemed overly time-consuming for a somewhat entry-level position.
4th: I didn’t make it to the final round, but I had the meeting to go over the writing exercise that I had submitted to the marketing manager. We met up over Zoom and she critiqued me on not picking up on things that she was looking for, which I could somewhat understand. I personally found the exercise to be rather vague and not really a great assessment of my talents. It’s also a bit disheartening to put all the energy and time into the interviews and writing exercise, as well as the face-to-face critique, only to hear back a week and a half later that they chose to go with other candidates.
