I interviewed at BetterUp
Interview
I talked with recruiter and then hiring manager. Asked three to five behavior-based interview questions. Questions regarding decision making, leveraging best practices, and positioning products. Overall, a positive interview experience.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Tell me about a time when you needed to leverage you expertise and best practice to influence higher level leaders.
The interview process had various stages:
1. Prepare a client-friendly presentation with a proposal based on a hypothetical client (detailed information provided on this by BetterUp)
2. BetterUp reviewed and provided feedback on the presentation and asked for amends to be made before presenting to them in a role-play type presentation
3. An exec summary of the presentation was requested with any further feedback. This was then presented back to BetterUp
4. Four cross-functional interviews held with employees in the business e.g. sales, account team. Behavioural and competency-based questions were asked here.
5. Two executive interviews - these were more high level and strategy based
Throughout the whole process, BetterUp were always on hand to answer questions and provide support. They were very responsive and always got back to me within a day or so! I felt as though I knew exactly what was happening at each stage and expectations were very clear. Feedback was provided in a timely and clear manner at each point too. The whole process was thorough and it gave me a realistic preview of the role at BetterUp and the type of work I'd be doing. It also allowed me to speak to and get to know multiple people who work across the business giving me great insight into the culture.
For interview difficulty, I have selected average as difficult didn't seem right. I would say it was challenging though - so somewhere between average and difficult. A lot of time and thought is needed, particularly in the presentation section.

In the presentation, questions asked included:
- How would you choose who and when people receive the solution?
- If we don't have time for this initial component, what can we do instead that we can implement now, but which is still evidence-based?
Interview Question examples:
- Describe a time when something went wrong at work, but it wasn't you fault
- Tell me about the last thing you learned/stretched yourself to learn?
