I was interviewing to become the company's first-ever hire dedicated to social media. I had my first round with a marketing team member managing the company's social pages until they brought someone on board. After that, I was assigned a brief writing assignment on December 2 that asked me to write a series of sample social copy and asked to turn it in a week later. At this point in my career, I have no problem performing a reasonable, writing assignment for senior roles, but I wish communication was better. The recruiter went dark, and after sending him a note on December 28, I got a reply on January 3 that I'd get an update by January 10. Again, the recruiter went dark. I sent a polite follow-up on January 23 and didn't get a response, only to receive a generic email on January 27 that I was passed over. Now, I've worked in this industry for over 11 years and don't have a problem being ghosted or passed over for a role (it happens to the best of us), but I found it to be a bit ridiculous that I was asked to perform a writing assignment and turn it in under a week, only to receive an update two months later.
