The interview process is pretty standard, you start with a 30-minute phone screening, then move on to a half-hour interview. After my virtual interview, I got an email from the recruiter asking me to complete an assessment.
I was sent this email on a Friday afternoon and was asked to have it submitted to them by the following Monday morning. Because I was interested in working for the company I completed it to the best of my ability and turned it in before the deadline.
I had never claimed to be an expert in Excel, however, that is what the assessment was based upon. Needless to say an entire week goes by before I decide to reach out to discuss next steps, to which I get a response that I was no longer being considered given others did a better job with the assessment - I want to preface that I had no issue with this, I understand if there is someone more qualified to do the job. My issue is that unless I had reached out on my own I would have never heard back from the recruiter.
If the company is going to hold its applicants to strict deadlines (which takes time out of their personal time), then the response back to applicants should be treated the same.
