I applied online. I interviewed at Canonical (Reno, NV) in Apr 2024
Interview
I wish I had read Glassdoor before proceeding with their interview process. It's a huge waste of time and is extremely inefficient. As others have pointed out, it's very impersonable and they do still use an antiquated "aptitude test" that they put a bizarre amount of weight on. The aptitude test includes a letter comparison test that uses a very uncommon font that includes a version of lower-case g that most people will not recognize, and some will assume is a q. The document they have you write at first took me a good 4 hours to write. It's quite long. The "person" they have email you doesn't respond or acknowledge your existence. I'm assuming they don't even get any emails you send them. It seems their goal is to remove biases from the hiring process, but they've merely replaced them with a process that's equally biased. Using the GIA as anything more than an interesting data point is entirely mis-guided. If Canonical insists on using it then make it the first thing a candidate does to ensure they don't waste 4 hours writing a document that nobody will ever read.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They had me write a long document about High School and College. Then they had me do the GIA test.
It's an extremely long process that includes standardized tests, take home assignments, and several rounds of interviews. It was at least 5 rounds long and you interview across different teams.
The first round is a bunch of questions like 30 or so where you have to describe your expierence, personal and academical information. Then there is a asynch technical interview and a psychology test.
Application
I applied through other source. I interviewed at Canonical (London, England)
Interview
They have a really long, tiring interview process. The first round was a written interview where I had to answer like 15 questions. Then a coding interview with 1 hour time that I could do anytime for 2 weeks. Then I had to take a personality test and they totally ghosted me.
