There is no dearth of depressing experiences when applying for a new job, but this had to be one of the worst. I had a brief interview in which I was told that they were considering me for a role other than the one I had applied for... ok. Then, after I wasted days on doing a take-home assignment (and did a great job if I say so myself), I was put through to the next round: a 'cognitive and personality' test. I did not want to do it but went ahead because, you know, need a job. Long story short: I failed it. My 'mental processing capacity' was not fast enough perhaps, or maybe my answers were too honest, or maybe I'm a seasoned and experienced developer and not a coding/clicking monkey. Which seems to be what they want. I can't help feeling like I dodged a bullet, though, because a company that dehumanizes people with such shoddy hiring practices cannot be up to scratch. For example, if you must administer one of those dumb tests can't you do it before asking people to do time-consuming take-home projects? It's cruel. Good thing I wasn't vesting too much hope here thanks to the Glassdoor reviews.
