Canonical Software Developer interview questions

Did an essay. Did an IQ test. Did 5 interviews. Did a code challenge. Got told no in an automated email. Don't apply. I saw the awful reviews and still went ahead, it's all true.

Applied to a role in the Online Services, Snapstore side of the business. Took them ages to get back to me, which was an inauspicious sign from the beginning. Passed the initial take home task that was assigned to me (what a waste of time). Then had a pretty casual chat with the manager. Honestly the hardest question I got was probably “have you worked remotely” to which my answer was yes due to the pandemic. Then I got a boring corporate email saying they are not moving forward. Haven’t got a clue what could have gone wrong with that interview. They told (because I had asked during the interview) me they were only hiring 1 person for that role to join a team of 2! The only reason that comes to mind is they wanted to hire their friends. Smells a bit corrupt.
