      Broker Trainee Interview

      Jan 27, 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview
I applied through an employee referral.
      The process took 3 weeks.

      Interview

Typically you will have a phone screen with a recruiter, takes 30-60 minutes and includes very basic questions: why Schwab, why this position, talk about prior experiences and how they align with job/company. This is fairly informal and is just to make sure you can speak to your resume basically. Then you may or may not get an invite into a "orientation" type program where 10-20 candidates will come to a meeting where you learn about benefits, culture, training, expectations, and then take a test to make sure you have basic math, interpersonal, typing, problem solving skills as well as a personality test. You then get a call back a couple days later and will know if you are going to be invited to manager interviews (2:1). These sessions are lots of questions that start with tell me about a time when... and it will be about a time where you failed, a time where you excelled, used technology to solve a problem or make a process better, went above and beyond. You will also get some questions about providing customer service and interacting with people. There won't be too much in the way of technical market questions (valuations, market mechanics, trading, strategies-unless you already have your licences in which case you can expect a few but nothing too deep). These last 60-75 minutes. You will then get a call from recruiter on a potential job offer a few days to a week later. Starting salaries are usually not negotiable, for brokers/bank reps you will not find your schedule out until after training.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

These are behavioral interviews. Have multiple scenarios memorized about a time when you failed, how did you create a positive from a negative, and how specifically you deal with a difficult situation or stress.

      Interview

Phone screen, in person interview, drug screen, background check and then job offer. Very straight forward. If there’s a split decision about hiring you they will have a third part interview you.

Tell me about a time you received tough feed back? What did you do with it and how did you react?

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Charles Schwab (Lone Tree, CO) in Dec 2017

      Interview

I applied for relationship specialist, got invited for a phone. during the phone interview, my recruiter referred me for the broker trainee position(financial consultant professional) she said I was a better fit for that position. The interview went well and I was invited for a second face to face interview the following week. On getting there I realized it was sort of a group interview. all the hiring managers were in the room with us(about 15 applicants) they talked about the job requirements, what to expect if we got hire; they also talked briefly about benefits. after that they divided us into 2groups. first group went on a tour while 2nd group(my group) went for the interview. some people were interviewed by two managers ; I was interviewed by one manager . during the interview; the one thing he stressed on was passing of the series 7&63. the interview was about 1hour in total.

      Broker Trainee Interview

      Positive experience

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Charles Schwab (Austin, TX)

      Interview

I had an employee referral opportunity, One phone interview asking basic questions such as, Customer Service and Scenario based questions. After that was the in person interview with two hiring managers that ask questions about your knowledge of the company trying to gage your enthusiasm. Be sure to look up exam based material, such as Questions, Time of Test, Etc... It was about a 2 hour interview asking questions about customer service examples and providing them with detailed descriptions of those examples( helps if you want to show your interest) I received an offer a couple hours after the interview and now going through a vigorous background check, UA drug test through third party company. I really enjoyed the staff and hiring managers, They were very hospitable and allowed me to bring thought upon my questions. High recommended employer!
