      Software Engineer Interview

      Sep 23, 2021

      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Chevron (Prairie View, TX) in Sep 2021

      Interview

SIDE-NOTE - 1. My entire recruiting process was virtual. 2. There were no coding questions for this interview 3. My process goes as follows. I spoke to 1 recruiter and I had one interview with 2 great interviews and the 2 interviewers never asked a question at the same time so you don't become overwhelmed. You really only speak to one person the whole interview and the 2nd interviewer might ask you about the contents of your resume. END OF SIDE-NOTE Met a Chevron recruiter at a virtual job fair held by my university(Prairie View A&M University). The recruiter spoke to me for maybe 10-15 mins almost like a mini-interview about my resume and previous work experience and relevant coursework. He then gave me a referral and told me to apply. The interview was held by 2 interviewers. They were very kind and friendly. The interview was about 25-30 minutes after they asked their questions. but total time was about 45-50 minutes after I asked my questions and got more personal with my questions. The Interview was about maybe 10-15 questions in total (I was nervous I don't really remember the number of questions), about 5-7 behavior questions, and about 5-6 technical questions. If you study really hard for the behavioral portion using the STAR method you'll do great but make sure you include something about how you're always striving for growth and innovation. The interview started off with all 3 of us introducing ourselves. Then I was asked a couple of questions about citizenship and sponsorship. then they asked the technical questions after that they asked me where I would want to work (upstream, midstream, or downstream). Then I was asked about the location I would want to work at whether that be in the U.S. or global; outside of the U.S. After that, the first interviewer asked the Technical questions, which there were no coding questions. It was really just asking very vague logical steps but they weren't tough at all. After that, the second interviewer asked me about the projects on my resume, Just like the recruiter at the job fair did. I tried to explain those as in-depth as possible cause those projects were old projects from the previous year. The first interviewer then asked me if I had any questions. I asked, "How are the incoming interns divided up into the company?" I then asked both of the interviewers 2 more personal questions and the 4 responses total took an additional 15-25 minutes. Overall it was a nice experience this process from speaking with the recruiter to the interview took exactly 8 days. I would rate the overall experience 9/10. The only thing I didn't like is how they asked some very vague questions and they kinda asked me the same behavioral question but reworded like 2 or 3 times (I just got out of the interview about 30 minutes ago. At this time of my writing this review I do not know if I'll be given the position of not ).
