      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Christie's in Jun 2021

      Interview

HireVue interview invitation emailed to me, had about a week to complete it on my own time. 3 questions, for each you have up to 30 secs to prepare and up to 3 min to answer, then you have the option to take a break (no time limit) if you want before moving on to the next question. Only 1 attempt per question and videos submit automatically. You cannot review your responses unless you are in "practice mode" beforehand, with non-specific-to-the-company/role questions. I have had 4 HireVue interviews with Christie's up to this point, all with the same format. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED with Christie's hiring process. HireVue is not an "interview;" it is an INTRAview. Apart from the usual interview questions, it bears no resemblance to an in-person or Zoom interview, or even a phone call. In these situations, you would never have exactly 30 seconds to prepare an answer and 3 minutes to answer it, after which you are cut off. INTERviews are, by definition, between 2 or more people. With this format, a company learns nothing about how one interacts with people. I consider myself to be a decent live interviewee, but with this format I become extremely nervous because of the lack of control and feedback. The really sad thing is I worked at Christie's in the recent past and it was a mostly great experience. I do not think I would have gotten that position if it had not been a Zoom interview or another type of live interaction. Frankly, outsourcing interviews in this manner makes a company seem lazy and impersonal, even if supposedly a real person reviews each submission. I should be excited when I am invited to interview; instead, I dread it, even though I really want the job. Even if it is not the supervisor or an individual in the department, someone should be able to spare 15 minutes to talk to candidates. To make it worse, a video at the end of the interview states that Christie's promises to get back to every candidate. This is a LIE, plain and simple. I know that hiring processes can take a month or so, but it has now been over 2 months since this interview and I have not heard a peep. I'm used to this with other companies, but if you make a promise, keep it. Christie's also does not update application statuses within my account - jobs I applied to months ago still say "under review."

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We use HireVue for interviews because it gives us the opportunity to interview a much wider variety of candidates. We can receive upwards of two hundred applications for a job vacancy, and having a small recruitment team, speaking to that many candidates even just for 15 minutes is not physically possible. HireVue is very beneficial because it allows complete consistency throughout the interview process; every candidate is asked exactly the same questions and given the same amount of time to prepare and answer each question. This also eliminates the risk of interviewers unconscious bias effecting the outcome of an interview. We acknowledge that no system is perfect but on balance we believe HireVue is a powerful tool that enables our recruiters to be more effective. Regarding interview outcomes it is simply not acceptable that you have not had an update from us after two months of waiting, by all means please send us an email to ukrecruitment@christies.com and we will look into this for you.

      Interview

There were three rounds of in person interviews. The questions were standard, and are mostly to determine if you are a good personality fit for the team. Pretty much only behavioral questions.
