Some locations do group interviews or, more accurately, a group introduction to the description and duties of being a designer and then break into one-on-one interviews. You will be in people's homes and often in their bedrooms, so social skills are important and not just backgrounds in sales, or design, or organization. All those additional skills mentioned certainly help, but they can also be trained. Motivation, paying attention to details, working independently are additional skills of value in this role. Importantly, listening to people and asking for the order are needed.
