I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at CoStar Group
Interview
Met with several individuals: the chief architect for an hour, then two of the software engineering managers, and finally the Director of Software Engineering. The first meetings were genuinely pleasant and interesting. We had some great discussions.
The interview with the Director was awkward and off-putting, and laced with profanity. He came across to me as somewhat insecure. He spent the first 10 to 15 minutes make sure well sure that I understood that the software engineering teams were his teams, that he was very demanding, and that he called out “misleading nonsense” when saw it.
Given what he said about owning the teams and being very demanding, I asked him how does he ensure that his team members feel empowered to make the decisions they need to make in order to be successful. Honestly, his answer was somewhat vague, and even hinted at that he expected the team to "self-empower" by making sure they did their research. Of course, he talked about an open-door policy, and the other typical things you'd hear a prospective manager say. I just wasn't convinced.
I know some individuals that work there and got the inside scoop. What I experienced and what I was told by some of the employees directly seemed to align too well with the low rating on GlassDoor. I have just let my recruiter know that I will be refusing the offer from CoStar.

Question 1
[Paraphrasing] I'm going to shoot straight with you; I call out misleading nonsense when I see it, and I demand a lot from my team. If you want to get ahead you have to do your research on your own time, not my time. how do you feel about that?"
Thank you for your feedback, we will certainly look into this further. We would be happy to speak with you in more detail, so if you are willing, please contact a member of our HR team (hrdepartment@costar.com).

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at CoStar Group (Richmond, VA) in Apr 2024
Interview
Nice interviewer but asked questions in an indirect way. Felt a little condescending. I was qualified on paper but very confused with some of the questions. Disappointed but didn't hear great things about the company in general, so may be a blessing in disguise.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at CoStar Group (San Diego, CA) in Jan 2024
Interview
I couldn’t understand the interviewer due to his accent. After the interview ended I realized what he was asking and emailed the correct answers. That didn’t work. My skills were not accurately assessed.
