I applied to an online job posting and was contacted by an internal recruiter one month later to schedule a 45-minute phone interview.
The job posting did not disclose a salary range or any compensation information, so before scheduling an interview, I emailed the recruiter asking what the salary range is for the role. The recruiter responded with a specific salary range plus commission.
So I scheduled an interview, and when the recruiter addressed compensation, he told me that this position is “commission only.”
I then asked him if he remembered my email asking about the salary range. He said, “Yes.”
I then asked him why he provided me with a specific salary range in response to my salary range question if this role is commission-only.
He said it’s not common for this role to have a salary because the hiring broker must pay it out of pocket.
I would appreciate it if the recruiter was upfront and honest with me when I emailed him about the salary range for this position.
I am supposed to hear back from the recruiter regarding the next steps, and I am still waiting to hear back from him.
