I have 2 years of sales experience, mostly with individules, and decided to apply with Comcast for a business sales position. I did the phone interview (which I knew went badly as soon as I hung up), and sure enough I recieved an email the next day saying I was not being considered further for that position. I know it was due to my lack of experience specifically with business sales.
About 3 weeks later I randomly received an email saying they had kept my resume on file and they thought I would be a better fit as a Customer Account Executive, which focuses on individual sales versus business sales. I was shocked that a company actually keeps resumes on file when they say they will! Anyway, I did the initial phone interview which lasted about 20 minutes, and that went far better than the first interview I had 3 weeks earlier. They called me the following day to schedule a 2 on 1 face-to-face interview. A week later I went on the face-to-face interview, and the two supervisors who interviewed me were very nice, professional, and asked good questions - mostly situational questions like "what would you do if"... and "tell me about a time that you"...
The one bad part about the whole experience was that they told me I would hear wheather or not I got the job withinin 48 hours- one of the supervisors even made a point to tell me "we don't leave you hanging"... However after a full week of not hearing anything at all, I started to suspect I did not get the job. But exactly a week after the face-to-face interview, I recieved a call saying I had gotten the job and they sent me an offer letter right away. Hey better late than never! I don't think my experience interviewing for this position is quite the "typical" one, but I was pleased with the results.
