I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Datadog (New York, NY) in Jul 2021
Interview
Interview process starts with a recruiter call. I went through a referral and I got a call the next day. Usually, there's a tech screen over zoom. Once that's done, there's a take home test that takes about 4-6 hours to complete. I heard back from the recruiter within 3 days and was scheduled for an on-site interview.
The on-site interview had 1 coding round, 1 system design and a couple of conversational interviews. The coding round was front-end focused and it's definitely something you'd day to day at Datadog. I didn't do well at the system design round and I knew I wouldn't get an offer.
But, everyone was super friendly. The recruiter, Sophie, kept in touch with me through the interview process to schedule interviews and to update me on the progress. All the developers and managers I spoke to were very proud of the company and were genuinely happy to work there. Overall, an enjoyable and an excellent interview process.

Question 1
Tech screen was parsing a JSON object from an API into a specific format.
Take home was an OS load manager exercise that takes 6 - 8 hours to complete
The coding round at the on-site was also a JSON parsing exercise.
If you've been doing javascript coding for a while, these shouldn't be hard.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Datadog (Paris) in Sep 2024
Interview
First step of the process is to select candidates with a generic role in mind:
1) short recruiter interview
2) 1h with an engineer - 30 minutes about candidate's experience + 30 minutes simple coding test
3) 1h design interview with an engineer
4) 1h frontend coding test with an engineer
5) 1h more in-depth coding test with an engineer
6) 1h experience and values interview with a manager
If you make it through all of this and get selected, you then go through a few team maching rounds (30 minutes calls) to find the best team for you and finally get an offer.
Recruiters and coordianators were very responsive and helpful through the whole process. You get to meet a lot of different people which is very good to get a overview of the company. Great candidate experience overall!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Datadog (Lisbon, Lisbon District) in Jun 2024
Interview
I'll preface this rant with a bit of context: I've been in the industry for more than a decade and worked on pretty big products, most of which have a nation-wide user base.
I had two technical interviews: the first coding one felt more connected with the interviewers and more engaging. While we haven't had a *match* per se, I had a decent understanding of how I haven't fully met their expectations.
The system design one, however, has been a very deceiving experience: while I thought we had a good conversation with the interviewer and I haven't felt challenged in any way neither by the initial formulation of the problem nor by the following questions, it turned out that I failed, which was a total surprise.
Furthermore, while my coordinator suggested scheduling a feedback session, they didn't follow up on that and I haven't had a chance to hear what exactly went wrong.
While my ego feels hurt by this rejection, I totally understand that things like that happen all the time and it's really hard to find an engineer with a certain skillset _and_ a suitable vibe. I'm just sour that I felt dehumanized by the whole process.
Seems like the company is going through a major growth phase and their HR brand does more harm than good creating excessive stress on the hiring pipeline.
