Long. Quiet. Confusing. And it ended with me digging on my own to determine the position had been filled.
I applied for this position on July 11 and things moved quickly initially, though in an unusual fashion. My first contact was with a Generalist looking to schedule me for two phone interviews, which I went ahead and scheduled. There was no prior contact with a Recruiter for an initial screening to ensure the job was a match for me, or me for it. That came after the phone interviews were scheduled and I called back to say I had no idea about the position I'd be interviewing for, or if it's background or salary matched my interests and requirements.
In the four days between scheduling the interviews and actually conducting them, I was finally able to speak with the Recruiter for the position, who gave me enough information to remain interested in the position. She also assured me that after the interviews she would keep in close correspondence about the position. I never heard from her again.
The phone interviews were fine, the managers involved knowledgeable and engaging while asking pertinent and relevant questions. They insisted they'd be moving quickly to fill the position, and asked me to pass along job-related writing and web samples, which I promptly did. I was also told I'd be contacted within two weeks about coming in for an additional face-to-face interview if I was among the finalists. That contact never came, and when I emailed the hiring manager he told me it would be another two weeks.
Two months later, today -- I did my almost daily diligence and logged into the DFS Career Portal and tricked it into getting me to my pending applications, where "Considering" had finally turned into "Filled", and not by me. I haven't spoken to anyone in almost two months, not even the courtesy of letting me know they had gone another direction.
Given the specialized nature of this position, its level, my background and my professional and thorough approach to the hiring process, I was generally turned off by the lack of fluidity in this process, minimal response and zero correspondence after all my inquiries when the hiring decision had been made. I'm not bitter about not receiving the job, I'm active in the hiring process for several others, but more the lack of professional courtesy to keep me informed.
