      Strategy and Operations Manager Interview

      Feb 16, 2021

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at DoorDash in Jan 2021

      Interview

15 minute phone screen with a recruiter, then homework to return. I was not moved forward after the homework. My feedback for Doordash: * Move the homework to later in the process or eliminate it. It doesn't make much sense to have someone work for hours (or days, depending on their availability) on something if you aren't sure you even want a manager to talk to them. If you are using the homework to weed people out, you should eliminate it. An effective interview can do this better without wasting anyone's time. * If you do keep the homework, you really need to improve it. I was just given a dataset and asked to provide three recommendations for improving the business. It's very unlikely that a situation that broad would come up in a real work situation. Better questions would focus on the applicant's understanding of the business. For example, what factors do you think might be contributing to decreasing restaurant ratings in this area? What kind of a market would you guess this is, rural, suburban, or urban? Also, it would be very helpful to provide some idea how the homework should be presented. That is, do you want a presentation ready to go over with later interviewers? A memo? A spreadsheet with notes? It was especially disappointing to see that the dataset shared with me hadn't been edited in five years. To be honest, it seemed like this was a hurdle that nobody was actually checking on.

First a screening call with HR, then a take home analytical test, followed by two virtual panel interview rounds with 2-3 people each round. Some of the interviews were behavioral and some were analytical.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash in Jun 2025

      Interview

Had a recent interview process that started off fine but ended up feeling like a waste of time. The initial phone screen with the recruiter was positive (straightforward, professional, and gave me a good sense of the role). But the hiring manager interview was… odd. They gave a quick rundown of the position, asked me one question (“tell me about your background”), and that was pretty much it. No real follow-up, no questions about my relevant experience, and no opportunity to actually talk about what I could bring to the role. It didn’t feel like a real interview - more like a box they had to check. So I wasn’t surprised to hear I wasn’t moving forward. Just disappointed that there wasn’t any meaningful conversation or engagement. Felt like a missed opportunity all around.
