      Strategy and Operations Manager Interview

      Apr 7, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DoorDash in Mar 2021

      Interview

My experience was very similar to other reviews on here. 1) The initial phone screen was directly with the hiring manager, which I thought was unusual since most initial screen calls are with recruiters 2) I was then given a take home assignment and was asked to turn around in 24 hours. Similar to others, recruiter advised that candidates usually spend no more than 6 hours on it. The questions are not difficult. The abundance of data can be overwhelming but I think they're looking for analytical people who can identify an objective function, stand up the right hypotheses and selectively analyze the data to arrive at a reasonable recommendation/conclusion. 3) After the interview, I was invited to 2 30-min each video interviews, one with the same hiring manager who screened and 1 with another in the same org. The interviews are casual and they're generally looking to assess your understanding of the business and your ability to think on your feet. In my opinion, your performance in your interview hinges on your chemistry with the interviewer. My first interviewer was warm and friendly and as a result, the interview felt much more like a informed conversation and I think like I was able to more comfortably bring out my critical thoughts. The 2nd interviewer was much more impersonal and rushed. I'm absolutely not saying this is an issue on this person's personality (the interviewer was cordial and polite) but the interview definitely felt more like a grilling session than a conversation. My impression of the team and the company would have remained generally positive until this last step, which I think was a slip on their part. After the video interviews, I did not hear back from the recruiting team for another week (no status updates, no communication on timeline). Generally for interviews, I assume I was passed for the position when I don't hear back in 2-3 days so while I wasn't hoping for positive news, it's a little discouraging and reflects badly on the recruiting team when the candidate has to reach out to hear that they were passed on. My feedback is similar to others here: 1) streamline your recruiting process so that communication with candidates are clear and on time 2) move the take home assignment later in the process (maybe after a video screen interview) - I see no reason why candidates have to sink 6 hours before having to converse with someone live for 30 minutes.

First a screening call with HR, then a take home analytical test, followed by two virtual panel interview rounds with 2-3 people each round. Some of the interviews were behavioral and some were analytical.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at DoorDash in Jun 2025

      Interview

Had a recent interview process that started off fine but ended up feeling like a waste of time. The initial phone screen with the recruiter was positive (straightforward, professional, and gave me a good sense of the role). But the hiring manager interview was… odd. They gave a quick rundown of the position, asked me one question (“tell me about your background”), and that was pretty much it. No real follow-up, no questions about my relevant experience, and no opportunity to actually talk about what I could bring to the role. It didn’t feel like a real interview - more like a box they had to check. So I wasn’t surprised to hear I wasn’t moving forward. Just disappointed that there wasn’t any meaningful conversation or engagement. Felt like a missed opportunity all around.
