Started off with a online application with the usual questions. Then was invited to do online tests; numerical, comprehension and diagramatical.
I was then invited to a first stage interview in London. This was with a director and was quite relaxed. Questions were focused around me and how you deal with situations, i.e how you deal with people you don't like, how do you work in a group etc. Also asked some questions about why I chose tax and why I chose EY.
I was then invited to an assessment center. This consisted of a group exercise, written task and a redo of the online tests. In the group exercise we had to recommend firms to invest in based on information given to us. Just make sure you contribute and are not too forceful. For the written task you have to summarize some information for a client and explain to your manager how you will organize a team to meet a deadline via a email. For the first part be concise, use headings to split up the document etc. For the second part they ask you how you will help the members of your team to develop so make sure you think of something for that. Finally the redo of the online tests not too much to say here apart from they were more difficult than the online ones.
The final part was the partner interview. This was also quite relaxed but from what i have read it was a bit more technical then what other people have experienced. As with the first interview a lot of it was questions about me but there were some more technical questions such as what are the current challenges facing EY.
I applied online. I interviewed at EY (Newcastle upon Tyne, England)
Interview
The interview process was fairly standard overall. I was asked a mix of strength based questions and questions regarding my CV, including questions around what “self-assessment” means, Alongside some technical questions relating to UK tax. The interviewers were professional and the process was well structured.
No interview completed due to being a spring insight week participant so the process was less rigorous compared to the grad scheme or summer internship programmes, for example. Question does not apply.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at EY (London, England) in May 2019
Interview
Partner Interview inside department of interest. Presentation pack to prepare for presentation. Follow up questions regarding presentation. Interview length was an hour. Interviewer cares about who they hire, if you are interviewed, they are interested in what you can bring to the firm. Believe in yourself.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Mainly strength and competency based questions. If you get to interview stage, they are interested in your character and belief in the firm. They will ask you questions about topics that are contentious, difficult and interesting. Be curious, show you want to learn and demonstrate an undeniable motivation to go the distance in your career. The job is yours but you need to take it.
