      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Elsevier (New York, NY) in Jun 2021

      Interview

I went through 6 interviews and had to do one 1-hr “assessment” (combination of personality questions, math, logic), including a final 30-min presentation. This is a very grueling process considering it is only a $90k base salary where I would not have been managing anyone. I will be upfront that I did not get an offer and was told my presentation was not strong enough in the end. Honestly, I probably dodged a bullet. I was already apprehensive about Elsevier because they do not have a good reputation amongst librarians, their main clientele, but the interview process was also toxic. I spent 10+ hours cumulative on the entire interview process, in addition the multiple calls from the HR rep coaching me before interviews, telling me things that other candidates did wrong that I should try to avoid. The HR representative was the only woman who I interacted with throughout the entire interview process - the rest were men in senior positions. As a younger woman early in my career, I think it’s a red flag that there was no a single woman involved in any of my interviews. I was also told this is a difficult group to please, which I think is another red flag. I’d just suggest other candidates protect their time and suss out whether it’s a good fit for you before getting to the final stages.
