Elsevier Software Engineer interview questions

Apparently it is a new trend in this area to give an "IQ test" type assessment. I was told I needed to take an online "programmer assessment test," being told nothing about the test, and was stunned to find not a single question related to programming on the test. Instead the test involved pattern matching, word analogies, poetry interpretation, and math problems up to the algebra level. I thought I might have gotten the wrong test, and then I decided it was a "trick" test of some type and they wanted feedback on the test, which I gave. Contacted the next day that I would not be considered further, I guess I was mistaken. I've since had another of these types of test, so perhaps it's becoming commonplace. It didn't test programmer ability in any way whatsoever.

They made an appointment for an interview and said they would call me, but apparently I needed to call them. He asked why I went to the particular University I went to and I why I choose my major. He then invited me to take a test containing simple math, rotating letters, and other simple logic questions.
