      Instructional Designer Interview

      Dec 28, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Everspring (Chicago, IL) in Jul 2017

      Interview

I went through 2 phone interviews, one with the recruiter and one with a current instructional designer. I then went through a several-hours long in-person interview, consisting of about 2 panel interviews and a interview with the director of the department. He then sent me home with a practicum to complete over a weekend. After all that time put in on both sides, I never heard back even to say that they decided to go with another candidate. This seems like a trend among companies recently, and I find it extremely discourteous and unprofessional.

      Question 1

One of the current instructional designers actually asked me what the ADDIE process was, and he seriously did not know.

We aim to deliver a good interview process, regardless of the outcome, and I am disappointed to hear that this was not your experience. I agree that Everspring has a comprehensive interview process for our Instructional Design roles; this process has been successful in giving candidates a good sense for the role and our culture (and us a good sense of their skills) before they join the company. We have found that this ensures our new employees' long-term success at Everspring, but are aware and respectful of how much time, effort, and emotion candidates invest in our interview process. For this reason, we work hard to make sure that we follow up individually with all candidates, and especially those who make it to the practicum component of our process. If we failed to follow up with you, it was both unintentional and an oversight, not our policy or typical practice. I offer my personal apology here. If you would like additional follow up, please reach out to the recruiter with whom you worked, and we would be happy to connect with you. - Karen (Chief Learning Officer)

      Interview

It was a long but thorough process. It lasted for several months, but it spoke to them finding the right person for the job. The panel interview was a little hard to get used to.

      Interview

I had two phone interviews. The first was not ideal, as the interviewer was leaving the company the next day, so I was going to be transferred to another recruiter. He only spoke to me for about 10 minutes, then had me email him bullet points for why I thought I was a good fit. The second interview was with the Learning Director, and was great. She was professional, friendly, and helpful answering my questions. She asked expected questions and explained to job well.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Everspring (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2020

      Interview

I received a phone screen with David where I discussed my background and why I was interested in Everspring. He felt I was a good fit for the role and let me know he was passing on my information to the hiring manager and would let me know if they were interested in continuing the interview process. They were, so I continued on to a one-on-one phone interview with the hiring manager. They provided more detail on the job, team, and working at Everspring. We discussed my working style, project management and organizational tactics, and my process for creating online courses. Following the phone interview, I had two video interviews. During the first I was asked to perform an assessment that allowed me to demonstrate my instructional and curriculum design, analysis, and prioritization skills. The second was a group interview with the hiring manager and several other team members where we discussed my background in instructional design and education, my project management skills, and working style. Following this round of interviews, I was asked to complete a practicum that evaluated my instructional and curriculum design skills. Lastly, I had a 30-minute video interview with two others on the supervisory team. We discussed my background, interest in Everspring, and my working habits. After this video interview, I was extended an offer, which I accepted. I had a very positive interview experience at Everspring. Everyone I met with was very friendly and excited about their work and the education field. I felt very comfortable and welcomed during each set of interviews. Throughout the whole process, David was very helpful and communicative, letting me know who I would be interviewing with and helping me prep beforehand. I felt prepared as I went in to each interview, which certainly made the process less stressful!
