I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Express (Orlando, FL) in Sep 2020
Interview
Applied online and was called for an interview in person about a week later. The manager was very friendly. Took me to the back of the door and had basic retail interview questions. Lasted about 10 minutes. Be well dressed, on time, and relaxed.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
- Tell me about yourself? If you have retail experience or customer service, focus on that. Make sure you know about upselling and suggestive selling.
- Tell me about a time you had a great customer experience and why it was so memorable?
-Tell me about the bad customer experience and why it was so bad? Make sure you mention what YOU would have done differently. Also, be kind even when talking about a negative experience.
- Tell me about a time you had an issue with a past coworker? Be honest and always mention how you were able to work it out. Communication and honestly is key to this answer.
- Tell me how you would build a customer's outfit you are trying to sell? I mainly focus on one piece of an item like a shirt and then suggest shoes that would go great with the outfit and then also mention something like jewelry is on sale and show the customer a pair of earrings that will also match the outfit. They are looking for selling skills, not fashion skills.
After that, it was talking about availability and how flexible you are. In the end, the manager asked me if I'm open to a full-time position which I said yes.
I was pretty lucky and didn't get a group interview. If you are asked for an interview and they give you different day options, always pick the closest date.
It was a very standard retail interview. There isn't anything specific to note. Easy, comfortable, simple. Standard preparation is recommended. I love the Express brand, and have for many years, so it was easy for me to use that as a talking point.
I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Express (Christiana, DE)
Interview
It was quick and expected. Much like the standard interview for these types of jobs. I was greeted, felt welcomed and was able to ask questions. I wish I would have gotten a call back,
Group interview where one of the managers picked one or two of us while sitting in a group of 6 to answer questions at a time. Basic questions like how would you respond to a customer or what is a style recommendation.
