Straight to Tech Assessment (Unexpected given in the email it said we will be discussing the job and my experience). Asked me to solve a problem that he couldn't solve for a few "days". I gave the correct answer to the solution within 5 minutes. I began coding it out and after a simple question he decided to take over and write his own functions with their own names not explaining his thought process as to what they should do. Gives me no time to think or reflect on the code and continues jumping forward with his solution. Next, asked to design a DB, I started brain storming and writing out possible tables and columns. We have a back and forth discussion. At the end he mentions a single field that I missed in a table. End of interview. Interviewer says he would hire me as a Junior but there are no Junior positions, and not as a Staff Data Engineer. I let him know that I applied for the Senior roll not Staff. He gasps apologizing, and lets me know he would have tested me easier but I still don't have enough programming experience (It took him days! to solve the problem) even for Senior, because Senior and Staff are pretty much the same. (In their listings there is a 2 year gap difference between the two). In addition I was coding through Zoom on his machine. Thank you for not hiring me.
