I applied online. I interviewed at Ferguson (Stockton, CA) in Jul 2013
Interview
This was a pretty disappointing experience. Not because there was no job offer but because it was a waste of everyone's time involved.
I had two phone interviews with recruiters and then met with 3 people at a facility for the final interview. It was 2 weeks between each step… except it took less than 24 hours to receive the "Dear John" email.
What was disappointing was how excited I was about the opportunity and had no problem doing the manual labor work in the warehouse for a few months to get a "ground-up" view of the company. But when I met in person with the managers, everyone talked down the job! They basically told me how much it sucked and how many people had been in the position. They revealed they had trouble keeping trainees and most left within three months… many within 1 month!
I walked out of the interview not even wanting the job anymore. I would've worked really hard.. but why would I want to work for people who have no faith in me from the start?

I applied through college or university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Ferguson (College Station, TX) in Sep 2015
Interview
I applied through my college career site and was contacted within a week and a half to set up a virtual interview. I made it through to the next round which was a phone interview and thought I did pretty well, but I was contacted a week later and wasn't offered an on-site interview at one of their DCs.

Question 1
Describe a time where you had to give above and beyond customer service
Their in person interview process was one of the best i've ever experienced. First, the general manager of the distribution center actually gave me a very detailed tour of the warehouse and then we sat down and he did an excellent job of explaining the job description and responsibilities. After meeting with the general manager, I had my official interview with the operations manager in a very comfortable setting.

Question 1
The most unexpected question is "would you be happy with working behind the scenes (behind a desk) or getting hands on in the warehouse?"
