Lots of interviews to make you feel vested and want the role. Warning, if you are an outside hire, they don’t treat you the same as an “internal” hire for the role.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Fisher Investments (New York, NY) in Sep 2015
Interview
I never applied for a position here. However, Merry from CNI Consulting reached out to me and told me about this opportunity in Portland. I was surprised because i am from NJ/NY area and this would be a drastic change. I interviewed with her for about 30-40 minutes. Asking about my current role and the position. Right off the bat she asked what I currently get compensated and then she said that the base would be about $55K salary with total compensation of $90-100K.
The position was to work with a team of 10-12 people under two head vp's. Reach out to alot of people and try and gain investment management money. It is a sale position. Training? They said that I would be on the floor since day 1 and that they would require me to eventually get my Series 65.
Hours are simple 8 hours a day and no weekends. It seem pretty nice.
Later on I spoke with Tim from Fisher Investments, very nice guy who asked behavioral questions. After the one hour interview with him, he said that he would send his report and discuss with the board and get back to me. 1.5 weeks later he called and politely said that they are not considering my candidacy at this point.
[I believe if things went through, they would have set up another interview and then schedule a fly date to Portland for a 1-1 interview]
Maybe this wasn't for me. Leaving my entire life to move across country? Oh well.
Some of the interview questions had the following format:
- Tell me a time where/when etc
- How would you describe etc
- Tell me about yourself
- Walk me through your resume
- What is something you don't like doing at work
- Why are you currently looking
There was not anything technical.
I hope this helps!
Best of luck!
