technical part was more less OK. Most of the questions are understandably in place and not difficult to answer. First the phone screening, and then 1:1. Basic OS knowledge, depending on weather you use that often or not you will know. If you don't then you certainly don't qualify as "Senior Linux admin" anyway.
Not sure what they were aiming for as no-one could answer any specifics about the position. I guess trade secret. Unfortunately we could not discuss anything about the job. Maybe if I signed some NDA we could get into details ... oh well .. maybe some other bloke will have it better.
technical questions aside, the second part (another day) with the HR and some team leader/manager were weird as hell. First they didn't know what to ask so I was getting bunch of standard questions about what do I think about the company, how do I feal about the job. Seriously? HR even asked me what type of the company organization I prefer, flat or hierarchical? Is that really important for this position? Please tell me if it is I thought I was applying for technical position, I'm not sure how much of my time will be really used for organizational purpose, then maybe I was missing something.
If nothing changed, make some answers up to the above questions. I really don't know what to say to that. Maybe if I was HR I would know. But then I would not apply for this position .. catch 22.
Oh and you would thought that Senior position comes with some decent salary .. well good luck with that. If you aim for anything above 55k/y .. better try somewhere else. I even asked what options are included in this offer hopping that such a below average offer would be compensated ... forget about the company stocks or anything.
answer to my question about the options, that there is a gym in the building did not really answered my question nor met my expectations. If i were a 21year old yappy maybe that would mean something. Senior Linux engineer? .. really .. ok I might need some time in the gym sure . but I would gladly chose to spend my money on the membership, or buy a nice bike, or .. whatever .. go paragliding ..
bottom line, think on what you can answer on bunch of standard questions, and apply if the salary meet your expectations.
