      Tax Intern Interview

      Oct 9, 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Forvis Mazars, LLP

      Interview

For entry-level tax positions, the first interview is usually with a college campus recruiter. The recruiter is mainly looking to see if you have a plan to reach 150 credit hours and if you are a good fit for the firm. The recruiter is also looking to learn about your accomplishments, prior experience, and your skill set. It is important to get to know your recruiter and to stay in touch - persist in your communication with them if you want the job! After one or two meetings getting to know your college recruiter (via Zoom in my experience), you may be given an interview with managers/partners. The managers speak to you about their position, and then they turn it over to you. Ideally, you want to show them you have a plan and are determined to get your CPA and the necessary 150 credit hours. You should also talk about prior experiences where you have demonstrated your capabilities. As best I can remember, I had no behavioral-based interview questions during any of my interviews. I stressed out about the interviews but they always ended up going well. Think of the interviews more like conversations - just mention things about yourself into the conversation. (keep it humble Always be kind, and always persist in your communication with the recruiter. Overall, just be a genuine person - honest and kind!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Tell me about yourself! Where do you see yourself in 5 years? - Why do you want to work at this location? - What about tax interests you? - How do you plan to become a CPA? (Make sure you know how to answer this PERFECTLY - if you don't have a solid plan, you probably won't get hired.)

The interview process was well-structured and professional. It began with a phone screening by HR to discuss my background and interest in tax. The main interview was conducted virtually with two tax professionals who asked about my accounting coursework, knowledge of tax concepts, and career goals. They were personable and encouraged questions about the team and internship experience. Overall, it was a positive and informative process that gave me good insight into the role.

      Interview

I had one 30 minute interview that was mostly the company telling me about themselves rather than the company hearing about me. Haven’t had an interview like that before, and I think this was definitely atypical.
