Reached out by recruiter and set up a screening call. It was a very informative without many questions asked. I was asked about salary expectation and I gave a reasonable number after doing some research, but then I was told it's out of range and it would need to be discussed with the hiring manager. Got an systematic email next morning saying they went with another candidate. I guess companies/recruiters would have to understand geographic factors before reaching out to candidates in competitive markets. The salary I was asking for was close to what I am currently making as a senior engineer. If I was only getting a small pay increase to be a senior manager, then I would rather take less responsibility with slightly lower salary.
