      YYC Pre-Board Screening Officer Interview

      May 30, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Calgary, AB
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at GardaWorld (Calgary, AB) in May 2019

      Interview

The interview process is comprised of several separate layers which you have to qualify for that takes place at the airport. Parking costs $30 and that covers the entire day which is required and non-refundable. The first layer is a video that you have to choose to agree with to proceed forward. It's a video of a male or female being patted down and the person doing the patting is either male or female, and you are told that if you are male you will pat down males, and if you are female you will pat down females. The video is slightly graphic and can make you uncomfortable which is why you have to sign an agreement if you choose to proceed forward which is given to you with a pen on a speech pedestal after the first test at the back of the room. The second layer is determinate upon being successful on in-class testing which are two (2) separate tests within a 3 hour period; -The first test is comprised of a slideshow presentation of Heat Mapped/x-rayed images of Grenades, Knives, and Guns. After completion you go to the back of the room and sign the form that you agree with performing the pat down process. Thereafter you go outside and are called-in if you passed. -The second round of testing is comprised of simple problem solving alongside mathematics and basic English which is answered through multiple choice. Once completed you leave and wait outside if you passed. If you did not pass you leave. If you passed you are then proceeded on to the third layer of qualification and given a face-to-face interview immediately after of 3 to 5 basic questions and another follow-up interview 1 week later for 30 minutes. If you're successful after the second face-to-face interview you will be given a phone call that tells you so a week later. Afterward you will be put through a process where you will go through training for 3 months or 180 hours and be tested thoroughly where you may still be not be qualified for the position. The position requires you to qualify for a RAIC, be available at all hours of the day all week long, and live within the city and be a Canadian Citizen. If you do not have these requirements or fail along the way you can reapply after 6 months. I went ahead and reapplied 3 times over the course of 2 years after not ever failing once and just being short of requirements such as a vehicle and a RAIC. In that time I acquired everything needed (4x4 Car, RAIC, Calgary address, and have a full education alongside a career path that matches the job requirements along with references) and still never qualified. I called to ask why I wasn't qualified during this Interview Process, as I was informed to call back from the final interviewer on a piece of paper, and was told they can't divulge that information.
