Associate Scientist - Clinical Pharmacology Interview

      Jun 24, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      South San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Genentech (South San Francisco, CA) in May 2013

      Interview

The interview process involved 2 rounds of phone interview followed by a 1.5 days onsite interview. The recruiter tries to gauge if you're a good candidate by looking at your education level, experience, and numbers of paper published. If you do not have enough publications, it is very difficult to make it to the onsite interview. Once everyone in the department interviews you, the hiring decision is left up to a committee. It is up to them to decide if the candidate will be a good fit for the role and the company culture (which is very academic). Overall, it was a great experience because according to me it was one of the toughest group to face in an interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I was asked to present a seminar based on my previous work and then I interviewed with 15 people during 30 min slots. Questions are mostly related to you experience and your ability to think through complex problems facing R&D.
