      Environmental Graphic Designer Interview

      Jun 17, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Gensler (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2014

      Interview

Got 2 rounds of phone interviews. Talking to 2 people at a time--one team leader, one team member. Waiting time between the 2 interviews were like 5-6 weeks. Very slow process. About 6 weeks after the 2nd interview, I emailed them updating from my end. Then I got a phone call telling me they would like to offer a 3 month temp-to-hire.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No general questions. All questions are related to my work. All questions are asked during my presentation of my work. Spent maybe 5 minutes saying hi and introducing each other. Then I started to talk about my work--for 40 minutes. Then they asked me if I have any questions for them. I spent the last fifteen minutes asking questions and they answered very well.

      Interview

After submitting application and portfolio materials, it took 3 months to receive a response from HR, then a week of coordinating schedules to set up an interview for another week out. I was told I'd be on a video call with a Design Director from Miami and another designer from Atlanta. However, I ended up on a call with two designers from Atlanta, and no director. I waited over 20 minutes for the interviewers to join the call, and they only got on after I reached out to the HR coordinator. It was a less-than professional experience.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The first thing they asked was for me to show them my portfolio via screen share.

      Application

The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Gensler (Chicago, IL) in Jan 2019

      Interview

Was asked to come in for an interview from the HR team via email. Came in, did the interview with three team members from one of the design teams. Was told I was a good fit but that the position wouldn’t start for a month or two. I was told I would receive an email with next steps. Followed up with a thank you and didn’t get a response. Never heard from anyone again. It’s a shame because the position looked like a good fit and the team I met with were very passionate and excited about what they do.
