I have no doubt Geotab is a nice place to work, but be advised that their selection process is long, complicated, requires to commit specific days and times to attend their hiring events, and you may never hear back from them, not even to say “we decided not to move forward with you”. Here’s my interview story:
A recruiter contacted me and gave me a whole lecture about this company. He encouraged me to research about Geotab and asked me a few questions I'd define as behavioral/character. He also had me to write an additional cover letter specifically for Geotab and send me a link to a 30 minute quiz, with the type of questions that can be found in an IQ test. I also completed an Excel test, if I remember correctly.
Couple days later I was scheduled to attend a “hiring event” at their offices in Henderson, NV. Recruiter gave me another lecture on how I should behave while there. "Smile a lot, ask a lot of questions, demonstrate interest, lots and lots of interest in everything about them, be cheerful and extrovert". So I attended this hiring event, (with about 20 other candidates) that basically was a presentation about company culture, benefits, how fantastic their company is, presenters kept saying things like “you were the best among all the applications we received”, “you will be a great fit”, “we are expanding so quickly you could get a promotion within 2 months” and other things (including a tour around the office and their marvelous game room with video games and ping pong tables and the kitchen with plenty of free snacks) that truly make you feel you are in.
Then, during the same event, I had an interview with a guy, more on the technical side of things, asked about past experience, difficult situations, etc. That one went fine. He seemed very satisfied with my answers and was very interested to have me interviewed with someone else, a lady, some sort of manager/supervisor I believe. Some girl told me that Lady Supervisor was ready to talk to me so I went to the office she told me to go. Unfortunately, this lady seemed mad the moment I stepped in the room, (probably because she was eating and I interrupted her lunch, go figure), didn’t stand up and did not respond when I went for a handshake. Her questions were more on the character/personality side, but she kept her poker face all the time, always staring at her laptop screen. After that one, I was told they will stay in touch with the recruiter for next steps and went home.
The recruiter had me to write and send them a “thank you” letter for the “opportunity to learn more about the company”. Days later, he emailed me saying he had no word from Geotab yet. Couple weeks later I asked him again and he said he didn’t hear back from the company. And I never heard anything back.
