I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at GitLab (San Francisco, CA) in Jul 2016
Interview
The interview process was so, so. I felt like the person asking technical questions didn't know what she was talking about. The technical questions that were asked somewhat didn't seem related and could be considered vague.
I'm sorry to hear that your experience of the interview process was so-so. I'd be glad to have a call with you about this, please don't hesitate to reach out through jobs@gitlab.com.
Other Front End Developer Interview Reviews for GitLab
I got a DM from the Gitlab recruiter via LinkedIn and we had the 30 min screening interview. They asked me about my experience on the Vue. In the end, they explained about the next steps and how intereview will be conducted but I got the unfortunately email after couple of days

Question 1
They asked me the simple coding question for the initial screening interview.
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at GitLab
Interview
There were 3 parts
1. HR interview
2. Technical interview
3. Manager interview
There was supposed to be another 2nd manager interview but the manager and I didn't hit it off very well.
He was late to the meeting.
at first I was sure this was just by accident. I later learned the did it on purpose just to test my response to "stress".
He did it because the technical interviewer, who interviewed me earlier thought I should be checked for my response to "stress".
I do not believe being late to a meeting would test working under stress in any meaningful way. It just shows how little the interviewer thinks of the applicants and their time.
I think such games are dishonest and disrespectful towards an applicant.
Something about the manager seemed off.
He pretended to be easy going and not worried about people speaking openly with their own words so I tested him and learned he was actually averse to people speaking their minds, and considered it to be unprofessional and showing a lack of humility.
He didn't say it to my face when I asked about it. I thought he wasn't being honest and I actually asked him if he had issues and concerns about me and he was being evasive and indirect.
The funny thing is they put me through their wicked tests but didn't bother to think if I was testing them for being direct and honest with me.

Interview
Got a first phone call, then a Zoom videocall with an engineer. Very easy STAR questions. Interviewers were friendly and the process was smooth. Didn't receive an offer after all of that though.
