      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab

      Interview

From the time I submitted my resume until the day I got the rejection email, the entire process took 7 weeks, and I spoke with a total of 5 people. I've never had an interview process take this long. This was not a managerial position, so I don't think that this process should have taken as long as it did. I'm not sure if this had something to do with my recruiter being very new to company. All interviews were conducted via video. This was a bit inconvenient for me. I had to go home during my lunch break in order to interview in a quiet secure place. I was able to make it work. I would warn anyone who does not have a tech company on their resume to proceed with caution. The hiring manager even told me in my interview that when it comes to hiring they (GitLab employees) tend to lean more toward people with tech companies on their resume. Regardless of this information, I still felt very competitive given my experience in the work they needed in the role. I made it all the way to end only to be told that the interview team believed that due to lack of tech company experience that the GitLab environment would be too much for me. The reasoning had nothing to do with the ability execute the actual role but with my lack of work at a tech company. Not sure how you can peg what a seasoned professional can or cannot handle/adjust to from a 30-45 min conversation, but it is what it is. The company should be honesty and put in their handbook that they lean more toward applicants with tech companies on their resumes. It would help people decided whether it's worth it to go through the process. I also received a verbal cue from my last interviewer that led me to believe that the team was leaning toward me. I was expecting an offer after that interview. I was absolutely gutted to get a rejection letter. After reading feedback on Glassdoor and across the web from others who have applied to GitLab, I am not alone in my experience. I suggest the company retrain their employees on avoiding giving interviewees verbal affirmation cues that there is a good chance interviewee will be chosen. It was a long and exhausting process. I wouldn't apply to this company again.
