I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab in Apr 2019
Interview
The interview for me was split up over 4 video calls using Zoom. Each call was arranged in advance and I was asked to list dates / times where I was available. I'd then get an invite for a session within one of these time windows.
The process was extremely friendly, professional and high quality throughout. I found that GitLab stuck to the processes listed in their handbook for interviewing and asked appropriate questions for the role I was applying for.
One of the sessions was a technical session where I was asked to code collaboratively online. This was a small task that couldn't be completed in the time allotted, so even though coding was being done, I felt this was more to test your general approach and see how you might go about structuring code for a feature.
There was a second technical call for me which was mostly theory in a question / answer format. This was a very relaxed and fun discussion about how you could potentially solve front end problems.
