I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Goldman Sachs (London, England) in Oct 2018
Interview
I was really excited to be interviewing with a leading investment bank in the world. I had been headhunted by a recruiter and had a few conversations with them before being scheduled a phone screen with the hiring manager. The hiring manager didn't seem that excited to be on the phone and on top of that was late by 20 mins which was very unprofessional. It's suppose to be a 30 mins call and I didn't have all the time in the world to wait. The manager finally called me and asked me a few questions about myself and then went on to tell how the technology department works at Goldman Sachs. I was then asked a few technical questions before telling me about what the next process it would be. After passing the phone screening the next stages were 2 live coding challenges followed by 5 interviews on site!!! I'm sorry but who has the time to go through so many processes?! The manager said that they have streamlined the process as it use to be 10 interviews on site. If anything it just puts people off and will be harder to find the right candidate or you will lose out on getting a great candidate. Also live coding challenges don't really test the candidate's skills as it just puts them under pressure. No one codes under pressure at work and if they do well then they need to find a better place to work at. Some companies don't understand that the skills can always be learnt but you can't change someone's personality so take the time to really find who they are as a person first!!! Another unprofessional thing they did was that they never sent an email to say they rejected me or not. I attempted to call the recruiter but he never returned my calls or emails yet at the beginning he was constantly chasing after me! Honestly, save some time and do not apply here for a software engineering role.
