I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Gusto (San Francisco, CA) in Sep 2015
Interview
The positive:
1. They were transparent. I liked that they tell you ahead of time that they would cut the interview short if they feel like it is not a good fit. This way they won't waste anyone's time.
2. Their questions were relevant to the role. More exercise questions than behavioral.
3. They were fast in getting back to me.
4. The PM I talked to seemed smart.
The negative:
1. The first person I met was a junior UX designer. We went through a design question. The problem with being interviewed by someone junior is that they already have a solution in mind on how they would solve a problem. You could tell she was not open for another solution which could be equally as good depending on the user's need. (That person was stuck on a cascading approach vs. being open minded about a percentage distribution approach).
2. After meeting with that designer, it kind of threw me off my game with the next interviewer. I was stuck on if I would be able to work well with someone with that personality. As a PM, having a good relationship with your designer is pretty key.

Question 1
Design/wireframe a feature. Other PM exercises like brainstorm ideas and prioritize.
Recruiter initialed AT wasted 30 minutes of my time in a screen. Then she disappeared with an automated email. Why waste time reaching out and speaking to us for 30+ minutes when you can't even provide a basic human response? I followed up politely and succinctly twice and was still ghosted.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Gusto in Mar 2025
Interview
Recruiter reached out to me for an initial screener and follow up conversation. The recruiter was a mess. First they rescheduled the call, then were late for rescheduled call, and then discussed politics awkwardly trying to relate it to small business mission of Gusto before getting to the conversation.
