I applied online and had a request for an interview 3-5 days later. Following the initial call with the team lead (note there is no recruiter call) I was asked to do a take-home assignment.
I should have listened to the other reviews, they are just collecting ideas for their app and asking people for free work and their ideas. I’m sure they do intend on hiring a few PMs along the way but I believe for the majority of us they are interviewing, they are just collecting ideas.
Please don’t be like me, and before spending 6+ hours on their assignment, reflect on:
1. Did they ask me questions on start date, salary, general HR questions? (the lead missed key questions around salary and start date when interviewing)
2. Did they mention a time frame for this assignment (they did not for me, told most people that when through it said they really enjoyed it aka they are happy if you spend 8+ hours on this assignment giving them free work)
3. Why are they hiring so many PMs at once, i feel like its extremely questionable that all areas of the business have such HUGE open headcounts, considering the company has been in place for so long… (the position I was interviewing for only had a lead, all PM roles in her line of business was completely open...
4. Did it make sense to go with you / was this role a reached role? (if i reflect honestly, my background was not right for this role, and then pushed me along the process anyway.
If you do still decide to go ahead with the take-home assignment, ask them to pay you, you are worth way more than free work, and you will land somewhere that values you.
