Applied at Horizon Air website, approx. 3 weeks later was invited to do a video interview, 1 day later was contacted by recruiter for orientation and face to face interview. Recruiters were not very prepared and the Manager who attended did not present himself in a professional manner or appearance as one might expect. It was very apparent from the recruiters and the Manager that the primary reason people come to Horizon Airlines are only the flight benefits. The Manager went so far as stating that because they are a smaller airline, an employee is able to operate in a multitude of work capacities which will make you more appealing to other airlines. The interview questions that were asked were exactly like all the interview questions posted here and as long as you study the questions on this site, you should be well prepared for the face to face interview. Horizon pays about $4.00/hr. less than most of the other airlines which is probably why the Manager was upfront about other opportunities and one of the Horizon employee's attending emphasized the high turnover. The recruiters who came to the orientation from Seattle were very nice but ill prepared and were focused primarily on arranging their return flights so they could fly back to Seattle together. The whole process seemed a little disillusioning and unprofessional even for a job that was paying just over minimum wage. The impression I got from the Horizon Airlines Manager at Reno was that Horizon was a good place to start and get the experience that will make you more appealing to another airline. The Manager expressed that their were no promotional opportunities unless you were willing to relocate. He stated that for him to promote, he started at RNO, went to Alaska then recently returned to RNO and was just married. I was expecting a little less personal information and a tad more company directed enthusiasm given that it was a recruitment type setting. I think I am going to focus my energies on attaining a position with a different airline. I was anticipating a whole room full of people competing for a few positions, the fact that only 6 people were there should have been an eye opener. Since Horizon is a sister company to Alaska Air and the recruiters came from Alaska Air, I'm not anticipating any better presentation with Alaska Air! I'm going to decline if offered. Just fyi, the pay is $11.86/hr.
